Von Solitaire nach Sesriem sind es nur noch 70km, allerdings alles Schotter und teils ziemlich schlecht. Aber die Aussichten machen das mehr als wett.

Its only 70k from Solitaire to Sesriem, all on Gravel and most is bad. But the views pay for the road.

Kurz bevor wir los sind hatten wir noch Besuch von einer Frau aus Olsberg, gerade mal 100km von Kreuztal. Sie ist mit einer Reisegruppe seit einer Woche hier und dagegen sind wir reine Glückspilze. In Swakopmund am Strand hatten Sie beide Autos hintereinander gestellt und vor dem ersten Bilder gemacht. Derweil hat jemand aus dem hinteren Autos die Rucksäcke mit Geld, Passen, Kameras usw geklaut, gesehen haben sie niemand. Dann zwei Tage in Windhoek um Papiere zu bekommen, gestern dann bis 50 vor Sesriem und dann haben sie sich hier überschlagen, zum Glück keiner ernsthaft verletzt. Danach werde ich nicht mehr angemacht warum ich so langsam fahre.

Short before we are on the road, we got visited by a woman from Olsberg, just 100k from Kreuztal away. She is traveling with a small group since a week in Namibia and compared to them, we are the luckiest travellers of all. After 3 days they stopped in Swakopmund on the beach and parked their two cars behind and made pictures in from of the first one. At the same time, someone stole three backbags from the second car, with Money, Passports, Camera, you name it. They have seen nobody and thought they are alone on the beach. Back to Windhoek to get new papers and yesterday, just 50km before Sesriem, at exact this spot they rolled their car. Nobody was really hurt, just bruises and cuts. Since then, i am not asked again why i am driving so slow.

Wir fahren also langsam weiter und dann kommen die ersten roten Dünen in Sicht.

So we continue slowly and after some tim we see the first red dunes.

Es bleibt aber stetig staubig.

But it stays very dusty.

Hinten im Tal liegt Sesriem, das Tor zum Sossusvlei.

Back in that valley is Sesriem, the gatewy to Sossusvlei.

Das Maingate zum Park. Es ist viel zu warm und so gehen wir erstmal in den Pool und fahren dann erst am Nachmittag in den Park.

Im Hintergrund sind jetzt nur noch rote Dünen.

Und im Vordergrund sind ein paar einsam Sand fressende Orix mit ihren langen Hörnern.

Dann kommen die dicken Dünen ins Bild. Da kann man drauf klettern, muß man aber nicht.

Then the big dunes come into view. You can climb then, but you dont have to.

Die berühmte Düne 45, da sind wir beim letzten Mal zum Sonnenaufgang hochgeklettern und wir waren fast allein. Anstrengend aber toll.

Wir klettern zur Hälfte hoch und geniessen die Aussicht und die Farben und Schattenspiele.

Es ist allerdings sehr windig und wir werden gesandstrahlt, nur deshalb klettern wir nicht ganz hoch.

It is very windy and we get sandblasted up here, thats the only reason why we dont climb up the top.

Weiterfahren lohnt sich nicht, wir können es nicht bis zum Vlei fahren weil das nur mit richtigen!! 4×4 Autos geht, also verbringen wir die Zeit an der Düne. Bis zum Sonnenuntergang sind es noch 2 Stunden.

There is no point in driving on, we cannot go to the Vlei, only real!! 4×4 can go there, so we spend more time at the Dune. Still 2 hours to go til sunrise.

Dann fängt es an sich zuzuziehen und fahren ein Stück weiter zurück, halten da an und warten bei einem kalten Bier. Aber es ist auch hier sehr windig und deshalb verzichten wir auf Sonnenuntergangsbilder, gibt eh keine schönen.

Then the clouds come in and we drive a bit towards home, stop there and have a cold beer and wait. But it is also very windy down here and so we screw the nice sundown pics, woud not get nice ones anyway.

Das Templimit hier ist 60, da hält sich aber keiner dran. Mit dem Wind und dem Sand sieht das teils spektakulär aus.

The speedlimit is 60, bot nobody cares. The wind and the sand gives spectacular effects.

Als wir dann am Camp ankommen gibt es doch einen tollen Sonnenuntergang, Pech gehabt. Tony und Ingrid sind auch mittlerweile angekommen. Wenn wir morgen früh da am Strassenrand stehen und nicht mehr weiterkommen wollen sie uns mitnehmen. Ich frage Ihn wie er denn die 60km ohne Tanken schaffen will, weil es da keine Tankstelle gibt.

When we get back to the Camp, there is a nice sunset, bugger that. Tony and Ingrid arrived as well. They offer us to pick us up when we stand next to the road tomorrow and cant get any further. I ask him how he will manage the 60km without refueling as there is no fuel station at the end.
