Den letzten freien Tag verbringen wir in der Stadt, nix wildes. Am Donnerstag werden wir pünklich um 11:00 abgeholt und wir kommen ohne Probleme nach Joburg. Einchecken ist auch easy, einziger Wermutstropfen, die Maschine ist rappelvoll.

Es ist immer lustig wenn einem der Lufthansa Kapitän einen angenehmen Flug wünscht, man weiß nie ob er das ernst meint oder einen verarscht. Hier ist definitiv letztes der Fall. Der Service ist wie üblich Müll, die Filme die ich gucken würde sind nicht da, man hat wohl vergessen die letzte Rate zu bezahlen und unsere Nachbarn sind einfach nur da. Der neben mir sitzt schon am Fenster, meint aber die Armlehne gehört da auch zu, blöder Zupfer. Nachdem wir uns über mehrere Stunden bekriegen gibt er endlich auf, der hat bestimmt blaue Flecken. Hinter uns sitzen ein paar Engländer, der halbe Flieger ist übrigens voll davon, die sich sehr an der Armlehne vor Ihnen festhalten müßen wenn Sie aufstehen, ob da unsere Haar mit bei sind juckt die nicht. Und wegen unserer Flasche Wein werden wir noch angemeckert, sollen Sie uns doch rausschmeißen, wäre mir mittlerweile egal. Irgendwann ist es dann doch 6 Uhr und wir landen, keine Sekunde geschlafen. Klaus ist schon da, und um 8 sind wir in Siegen und lassen den Audi zu und um 9 Uhr stehen wir an der Tür. Von wegen Frühling, es ist bitter kalt. Damit ist auch diese Reise zu Ende und die Berichterstattung endet hiermit, wir hoffen es hat ein bißchen Spaß gemacht mitzulesen, uns jedenfalls hat es sehr viel Spaß gemacht diese Reise zu unternehmen, es wird wohl nicht die letzte sein.

We spend the last day in town walking arround, nothing major. We get picked up on Thursday on time and we get to Joburg without any problems. Checkin is easy, only downturn is, the plane is chockerblock full. It is always funny when a Lufthansa Captain wishes you a pleasent flight, you never know if he is serious or joking, this time he must be joking. The Service is Lufthansa, the Movies i would like to see are not availabe, they havent paid the last installment and our neighbors are just there. The Yank next to me sits on the window but still believes the armrest is his as well . Well i have news for you dude, it is mine and after we wrestle for hours quitly over it, he finally gives up, i guess he will have a sore arm tomorrow. The Poms behind us, and for no apparent reason the plane is full of them. cant get up without having a good grip on the Seats in front of them, no matter if our hair is in their grip or not. And we get badly told off because of our bottle of wine we brought with us, i really wish the Obersturmführer dressed as a Steward kicks us out, i dont care any more. Finally its 6am and we land, not a single second sleep. Klaus is here already and by 8am we are back in Siegen and get the Audi on the road and at 9am we stand in front of our house. Spring ? yeah right, its fuc.. cold. Anyway, this is the end of this trip and we hope you enjoyed reading it a bit, we enjoyed doing this trip very much and we have a distinct feeling this was not the last.

Wir räumen die Zicke aus und kaufen noch ein paar Flaschen Wein, nämlich 36. Um 14:00 Uhr sind wir bei Louis, er hat alle Papiere fertig, und wir bekommen doch tatsächlich die Kohle vom dem Unfall im Hafen im November mit dem blöden Nasshorn. Verglichen mit Argentinien ist das hier ein Spaziergang im Park, wir können es gar nicht glauben. Alles was wir tun müssen, ist unser Auto in den Hafen fahren und Louis den Schlüssel geben, fertig. Danach fährt er uns zurück in unser Gästehaus. Jetzt warten wir nur noch auf den Rückflug und dann ist das Kapitel Afrika für dieses mal beendet.

We continue to clean out the Bitch and after that we buy some more wine, 36 Bottles. At 2pm we are at Louis, he has already finished all the Papers, and we really get the remaining money from the accident with the Rhino in November. Compared to Argentina, this is a walk in the Park, we cannot believe this. All left for us is to drive the Bitch into the Part and give Louis the Key. After that he drives us back to our Guesthouse and now we wait for the flight home and the Africa Chapter is closed for this time.

Seit Lusaka sind wir uns immer wieder begegnet und hatten viel Spass. Sie bleiben noch bis Ostern in Kapstadt. Da sie nur 150km von uns weg wohnen wird mal sich wohl auch in Europa mal sehen.

We meet them several times since Lusaka and had lots of fun together. They stay until Easter in capetown. As they live only 150km away from us, we might see us there as well.

Wir fahren zum dem Wasserloch von gestern und haben dort ein schönes Frühstück zu viert in der Sonne. Dann trennen wir uns, die beiden bleiben noch eine Nacht im Aardvark aber wir müssen nach Port Elizabet heute, daher machen wir uns auf den Weg nach Süden und werden am Südtor rausfahren. Wir checken noch eben ein Wasserloch aus und siehe da, da sind sie ja alle. Und sie haben wieder mächtig Spaß.

We drive to the Waterhole where we have been yesterday and a nice breakfast in the sun for four. After that we split, they stay the night in the Aardvark and we need to be in Port Elizabeth tonight. Therefor we drive to the south and we will leave the Park vi the southern Gate. On the way we just check out another waterhole and there they are, having lots of fun.

Im ganzen zählen wir 62 Elefanten.

In total we count 62 Elefants.

Da wird mit Matsch geworfen und Wasser geschlürft.

They is a lot of mud throwing and water slurping.

Aber im großen und ganzen geht es recht geordnet zur Sache, vorerst noch.

But in total, it is quite controlled, for now.

So ein Mist, der Rüssel ist noch zu kurz.

Bugger, the Trunk is still to short.

Aber dann fangen die ersten an ein Vollbad zu nehmen.

Then we have the first one taking a full bath.

Und schon ist die Party im Gange. Die haben auf jeden Fall ne menge Spaß im Wasser.

And the Party is on the way. The definitely have a lit of fun in the water.

Aber es nutzt nix, wir müssen weiter. Im Süden treffen wir noch eine große Gruppe, die ziemlich dicht zusammen stehen.

We have to move on, we meet another big group in the south, and they stick together very tight.

Und da kommt auch schon der Grund dafür, der ist einfach zu laut.

And here comes the reason for that, this thing is simply too noisy.

Die sind irgendwie nervös.

They are somehow nervous.

Auch hier müssen wir weiter und kurz vor dem Tor sehen wir dann den letzten Elefanten. Es gibt zwar hier nicht die Artenvielfalt wie im Krüger, aber dafür ne Menge Elefanten. Und die machen halt immer irgend was, auf alle Fälle vergeht die Zeit rasend schnell, wir waren fast 7 Tage hier und es fühlt sich als wären wir gestern erst gekommen.

Again, we must move on and short before the Gate we see the last Elefant of Addo. There are not so many different species here then in Krüger bu there are a lot of Elefants here and they always are doing something. Anyway, time flies here. We have been here nearly 7 days and it feels we arrived yesterday.

Wir fahren bei Louis vorbei und lassen unser Carnet da. Anschliesend gönnen wir der Zicke noch eine Unterbodenwäsche und im Hotel fangen wir an unsere Sachen auszuräumen. Die erste Nacht dieses Jahr in einem normalen Bett.

We drive by Louis and leave our carnet there. Following we spend the Bitch a nice under body wash and in the Hotel, we start to get out stuff out. The first night this year in a normal bed.

Letzte Nacht haben wir dann im Addo selbst verbarcht und sind daher etwas früher unterwegs. Nach 5km sehen wir am Wasserloch eine große Herde trinken und am Horizont sehen wir noch mehr Elefanten kommen.

We spend last night in Addo itself and therefore we are in the Park a bit earlier. After 5k we see a large Herd of Elefants at the first Waterhole and a lot more coming from the distance.

Kommt doch auch runter zum Spielen. Ne. besser nicht.

Come down and play with us. Oh, better not.

Es geht ziemlich geordnet zu. Wenn einer von den Kleinen dem Wasser zu nahe kommt, wird er gehalten.

There is not a lot of Chaos, all behave proper. If one of the small ones get too close to the Water, the other are holding him.

Nach einer Weile macht die erste Gruppe Platz für die nächsten.

After a while, the first Group makes space for the next ones.

Und bei der zweiten Gruppe ist ein alter Bekannter, oder eher ein kleiner Bekannter.

And with then second group, there is an old mate of us, or better a small one.

Wir fahren um die Ecke und warten an der Stelle, an der die restlichen Elefanten über die Strasse kommen müssten, und sie kommen auch.

We drive around the corner and wait where the other Elefants must cross the Road and surely they are coming.

Während sie vor einem rüberlaufen bekommen wir immer mal einen Blick, aber dann gehts weiter.

While they are crossing in front of us, we get the odd view, but then they carry on.

Und verschinden auf dem Weg zum Wasser.

And disappear on their way to the water.

Nachdem über 70 Elefanten um das Wasserloch versammelt sind erwarten wir nicht viel von dem Rest. Wir finden nur ein paar Büffel.

After there are over 70 Elefants around the waterhole, we do not expect much of the rest of the Park, and indeed we run only into a few Buffalos.

Der ist tot und die ersten Geier kommen schon. Der Geier ist ein Raabe und der Büffel steht gleich wieder auf.

This one is dead and the first vultures are here. The vulture is a raven and he is up in a second.

Nochmal eine Strassensperre, ganz unten sind noch ein paar Elefanten.

The next roadblock, in very south there are some Elefants.

Auf einmal sind wir umzingelt von Eelfanten, sie sind überall und wir kämen nicht weg falls wir müßten. Gar nicht gut.

All of a sudden we are surrounded by Elefants and they are everywhere and we could not leave if something happens. This is not good.

Aber Sie stören sich nicht an uns, sondern gehen um uns herum. Das wäre im Krüger definitiv anders. Der hier ist Benjamin Blümchen.

But they dont care about us and walk arround us. This would be very different in Krüger.

Auf dem Weg zurück stören wir noch einen beim Schlammbad. Auf dem Campingplatz treffen wir auch unsere beiden Holländer wieder. Morgen ist dann Schluß und wir fahren nach Port Elizabeth.

On our way back we disturb this one at a mud bath. On the Campground we run into our two Dutch again. Tumorrow it is over and we have to drive to Port Elizabeth.

Die Sonne scheint wieder und alles ist gut. Ziemlich früh laufen wir in eine Strassensperre, der hier ist nicht wirklich gewillt uns durch zu lassen.

The sun is out again, all good. We run into this roadblock early on, he is not very keen to let us pass.

Dann taucht seine Gruppe auch noch auf, das kann jetzt länger dauern.

Then he whole group shows up, this might take a bit longer.

Da ist ja auch der Mini Elefant von gestern wieder, so weit gekommen sind die heute Nacht nicht.

There is also the Pygmy Elefant from yesterday as well, they did not get very far tonight.

Und die Quelle ist immer noch sehr hoch.

And the food source is still very hight.

 Nebenan liegt noch ein stolzer Kudu und guckt sich das alles entspannt an.

Close by is the proud Kudu and has a look, very relaxed.

Ich bin überrascht wie schnell der Matsch getrocknet ist und so kommen wir locker bis in den tiefen Süden, wo man das Meer schon sehen kann.

I am puzzled how quickly the mud dried up and so we get deep into the south without any problems, you can see the Sea from here.

So siehts hier aus, unten an der Kreuzung waren die Löwen am Montag beschäftigt.

This is how its looks here, down there at the Junction, this is where the Lions have been on Monay.

Es ist auch wieder wärmer geworden, die ersten haben den Kühler wieder ausgefahren.

And it is warmer then before and we see the first coolers out again.

Nachdem es gestern fast den ganzen Vormittag geregnet hat und wir deshalb gar nicht rausgefahren sind, sieht es heute etwas besser aus. Der Park ist aber ziemlich leer und bis auf die beiden Löwen hier sehen wir nicht viel. Als wir im Süden ankommen zieht es sich wieder zu, und es fängt an zu regnen. Die Strassen sind jetzt schon sehr rutschig und ich befürchte irgendwo stecken zu bleiben. Solange es trocken ist bekomme ich die Kraft auf den Boden um unser 4to Ding den Berg hochzuziehen, aber im Nassen und im Schlamm sieht das ganz anders aus. Also drehen wir um und versuchen rauszukommen.

After it rained the whole morning yesterday and therefore we skipped the day, it looks better this morning. The Park is rather empty, except of these two we dont see anything. As we reached the south, it started to rain again. The roads are already still very slippery and i am scared that we will get stuck somewhere. As long as it is dry we dont have a problem to get the power on the ground to drag our 4t thingy up the hill, but if its wet or even muddy, this looks very different. So we turn arround, call it a day and try to get home.

Eine Ecke der Strasse ist total schlammig und ich muß allen Schwung nutzen den ich kriegen kann, aber wir schaffen es so gerade auf die geteerte Strasse. Und dann treffen wir die Elefanten und das neueste Mitglied, gerade mal 80 Tage alt.

There is one stretch of road that is just a muddy mess, and i need all the speed i can get to pull through, but we reach the tar road, and there are the Elefants, and this is the latest addition to the park, just 80 days old.

Der ist wirklich winzig im Vergleich zu Mama und kann locker unter ihr rumlaufen. Es ist total spannend zu sehen wir vorsichtig die Alte ist, und aufpaßt das sie ihn nicht tritt.

Es ist really small compared to mum and he can easily walk underneath here. It is amazing how carefully she is,  not to kick him.

Und es ist alles schon dran, der Rüssel macht aber noch was er will. Speilt auch keine Rolle solange Mama über einem steht und aufpaßt. Und nicht nur Mama, die gesamt Gruppe kümmert sich um ihn und passt auf. Den Löwen will ich sehen der sich trotzdem traut.

And he is already complete, okay the trunk has a life of its own but nothing matters as long as mum is above him. And it is not only Mum who looks after him, the whole group takes care. I like to a Lion to have a go against that.

Das einzige Problem was er hat, die Milchbar ist zu hoch und er kommt so gerade dran.

The only Problem he has is that the Nipples are too high and he can just reach them.

Wir treffen noch auf diesen Burschen im späten Sonnenlich, war trotz der etwas dürftigen Ausbeute wieder mal toll.

We meet this guy in the late sunlight and despite the poor hunt, it was a nice day again.

Wir schaffen es sogar mal etwas früher in den Park, um 10 sind wir schon da. Ich weiß wirklich nicht wie wir das im Krüger gemacht haben, da waren wir einmal sogar um 4:30 am Gate. Da waren wir allerdings auch noch einiges jünger. Und wie gestern rennen wir zuerst in die Büffelherde.

We manage to get earlier into the Park, at 10am we are there. I have no idea how we did into the Krüger so early, one day we passed the Gate at 4:30am. We have been much younger the, though. As yesterday we run into the Bffelos first.

Okay, der Blick ist nicht wirklich intelligenter heute.

Zum Frühstücken fahren wir auf den Zuurkop Outlook. Die Strasse ist etwas steiler und recht schlecht, aber wir wundern uns warum Tony so Probleme hatte mit seinem alten 4WD Chevi, dass er meinte das wär nix für uns. Während er gerade so im ersten Gang da hoch geschlichen ist, donnern wir locker im zweiten da hoch, wir üherholen sogar noch einen. Die Aussicht ist ganz gut und wir geniessen unser Frühstück, immer wieder gestört von verwunderten Touristen, wo wir wohl her kommen.

For the breakfast we drive up the Zuurkop lookout. The road is a bit steeer and bad, but we wonder why Tony had such problems to get up here with his ancient 4WD Chevie, that he though we wont make it up here. While he just managed to get up here in first gear, we steam up the hill in second and even pass another car. The view is nice and we enjoy breakfast, only disturb by some wondering Tourists, where we came from.

In der Ferne sieht man Zeichen vom Zivilisation, der Park liegt mitten in Farmland, und früher war das alles hier selbst Farmland.

You can see signs of civilization in the distance, the Park is in the middle of Farmland, the Park itself was once Farmland.

Von hier oben sehen wir eine Elefantenherde aus dem Wald unter uns kommen, wir packen schnell ein und machen und auf den Weg um sie abzufangen.

We can see a Herd of Elefants coming out of the forest below us, we pack our stuff and set off to intercept them.

Aber vorher schnell noch ein Beweisfoto für Tony, die Zicke war hier.

Unterwegs treffen wir die 4 Bullen auf der Wiese. Uns fällt auf, dass keine Kühler draussen sind, es sind aber auch keine Mädels hier.

On our way we meet these four Bulls on the Gras. We note that they have no coolers out, but there are no Ladys arround either.

Erst als der hier die Touries im Auto beeindrucken will fährt er aus was er hat.

Just as this one here wants to impress the Touries, he gets his assets out.

Die mögen sich auch anscheinden.

They also like each other.

Wir finden die Herde auch, aber die kommen nicht wirklich aus dem Gebüsch, also fahren wir weiter.

We find the Herd but they do not really get out of the Bush, so we kep driving on.

Am nächsten Wasserloch stehen die beiden Bullen hier und begrapschen sich, keine Ahnung was das werden soll. Der linke läßt dann mal Wasser ab, damit kann man schon einen mittleren Hausbrand löschen.

The next waterhole brings us those two bulls, touching each other. No idea where that is going. The left one needs to make a leak, you can easiliy kill a mid size house fire with that.

Die mögen sich halt eben auch, das scheint hier im ganzen Park so das Motto zu sein.

They also like each other, this seems to be the common theme in the whole Park.

Kurz hinter dem Liebesnest dieser beiden von gestern sehen wir sie wieder, anscheinend haben sie Hunger, den sie sind auf der Pirsch. Weiter unten im Tal hören wie die Kudus schon warnen und auch die Warzenschweine machen mächtig Krach.

Short after their lovenest from yesterday, we meet the Lions again, apparently they are hungy as they are on the hunt. Down in the valley, the Kudus are warning and also the Warthugs make a lot of noise.

Die Löwin spaziert 2 Meter neben uns den Berg hinab und würdigt uns eines kurzen Blickes.

The Lioness walks just 2m besides us down the hill and gives us one short look.

Kurze Zeit später trottet auch er ans uns vorbei.

Short time later, he passes us as well.

Die Löwen verschwinden dann im Busch und wir treffen wieder auf Elefanten, mit Kühler. Barbara ist mittlerweile ganz wuschig und zoomt mitten drauf. Scheint ansteckend zu sein.

The Lions disappear in the bush and we meet some Elefants again, this time with cooler. Barbara is a bit nervouse by now and zoomed straight in, seems to be contagious.

Der sieht völlig harmlos aus und kaut auf seinem Gras rum…aber wir können sehen was er wirklich vor hat.

He looks totally inocent and munches on his Gras …but we can see whats on his mind.

Er kommt dann mal näher um zu schnuppern was hier los ist, der Rüssel ist fast im Auto. Babsi stellt vorübergehend die Atmung ein.

Er gets closer to have a sniff what going on here, his trunck is almost inside the car.

Babsi stops breating for a short while.

Nachdem er sich die Sticker angesehen hat trollt er sich von dannen.

After he had a look at the Stickers, he keeps going.

Mittlerweile ist es dunkel geworden und dicke Gewitterwolken ziehen auf. Ich versuche so schnell wie es geht nach hause zu kommen, oder zumindest auf die Teerstrecke. Im nassen könnten wir hier Probleme bekommen.

Meanwhile it has gotten dark and huge clouds are forming. I try to get home or at least on the tarmac, because in the wet we might get problems here

Wir schaffen es aber nicht ganz, kommen aber trotzdem gut nach Hause. Die Nacht und morgen früh wird es wohl nass werden, Grillen im Regen ist ja trotzdem spassig.

Als ich das hier schreibe weiß ich das ist natürlich Böldsinn, im Regen ist das Mist.

We did not make it, but we have no problems getting home. Tonight and tomorrow morning will be wet, but haveing a bbq in the rain is still fun.

By the rime i write this, i know its Bullshit. Bbq in the rain is rubbish.

Nachdem wir uns von den Hollis veabschiedet haben, die wollen noch ein paar Tage ins Karoo, machen wir uns auf den Weg in den Park, der ist 10km vom Aardvark entfernt. Der Park ist 1800 km² groß und es leben hier 500 Elefanten, angeblich 3 Löwen, Büffel, Kudus, Spitzmaulnashörner und divere andere hier. Unsere Wildcard spart uns auch hier den Eintritt, und wir sind in 10 Minuten durch die Tore im Gelände. das erste was wir zu Gesicht bekommen sind ein paar Büffel. Das sind die letzten Cape Büffel ohne TB.

After we said Bye to the Dutch, they want to spend there last few days in the Karoo, we make our way into the 1800 sqm Park, which is only 10k from the Aardvark Camp away. They have 500 Elefants, 3 Lions, Buffalo, Kudos, Zebras, a few Black Rhinos and some other animals here. We save the entrance fees by using the Wildcard again and it takes 10 minutes to clear the gates into the Park. The first thing we see are some Buffelos, these are the last remaining desease free Cape Buffalos.

But they look as stupid as there relatives from the Krüger Park.

Wir fahren in den südlicheren Teil wo sich die Elefanten aufhalten sollen, wir sehen aber keine, statt dessen aber 2 Löwen.

We drive into the southern part of the Park, where the Elefants are supposed to be now, but we dont see any, instead we see two Lions.

Ein kleines Stück später sehen wir noch 3 Löwen, diese zwei hier und einer weiter oben. Es gibt also definitiv mehr als 3 Löwen im Park. Wir wundern uns noch warum Sie mit einem so zufriedenen Lächeln im Gras liegt – wie erschossen.

A short while later we see another three Lions, these two here and another one further up. There are definitly more then 3 Lions in this Park. We are still wondering why she in the Gras which such a smile and lays down like shot.

Und wir sind noch keine 2 Minuten da, und schon geht es wieder los. Die haben wirklich nur 3 Sachen im Kopf, fressen, schlafen und das da. Und die hier sind ziemlich wild dabei, er beißt Sie kräftig und macht seltsame Geräusche, für die man in einem Mietshaus ziemlich Ärger bekommen würde.

We are for less then 2 Minutes and it starts again. They have really only three things in their minds, eating, sleeping and this here. And they are pretty kinky, he bites her badly and makes noises for which you would get in big trouble in a Appartment Complex.

Wir bleiben noch ein bißchen und finden heraus das die Sache mit den alle 15 Miniten nicht stimmt, es sind alle 22 Minuten. Nach der dritten Nummer haben wir genug gespannt und fahren weiter.

We stay a little and find out that the “every 15 Minutes” is a myth, its every 22 Minutes. After his third performance we played enough peeping tom and move on.

Und am nächsten Wasserloch sehen wir dann auch mal ein paar Elefanten, eine kleine Herde.

And at the next waterhole we see a least some Elefants, a small herd.

Die kreuzen vor uns die Strasse, der hier weiß nicht so recht was er von uns halten soll.

The cross the road just in front of us and this wont has no idea what to think of us.

Es ist auch ein ganz kleiner dabei. Immer lustig zu sehen wie die sich anstrengen müssen um mit den großen mithalten zu können.

There is also a very small one. It is always amusing to see them trying to keep up with big ones.

Kurz vor dem Südende drehen wir rum und sehen was ganz seltenes, ein Caracal. Wir bleiben stehen und schauen Ihm ein paar Minuten zu, bis ein Auto von hinten kommt und ihn verscheucht, Danke auch, du Idiot. Das war der erste Caracl denn wir in der Wildnis gesehen haben.

Short before the southern end, we turn arroujd and run into something very rare, a Caracal. We stop and watch him for a fee minutes, until a car comes from behind and scares him away, Thank you very much Idiot. This was the first Caracal we have seen in the wild.

Wir nehmen einen anderen Weg zurück und rennen prompt in die nächste Herde Elefanten, die mitten auf der Strasse stehen. Wie bei den Löwen scheint es auch hier nur um eins zu gehen, die Herren tragen fast alle lang auf. Oder es ist ihnen zu heiß und sie benutzen die Dinger als zusätzlichen Kühler. Wir schätzen das der mindestens 10 Liter Blut braucht um den aufzupumpen, damit wäre die Menschheit schon ausgestorben, weil das kein Mann überleben würde.

We take another road back and run promply into another herd of Elefants in the middle of the road. As with the Lions, they seem to have only one thing in mind, the Gentlemen wear all long. At some point we have oncoming traffic who stops right there, but they dont relly care. The Matriarch just passes in half a meter to the car, the Bull in the middle is more considerate and leaves just enough space, so he does not bump into the door with his thing. The people in the car are not moving and i suspect the stopped breathing right now as well.

Für den ersten Tag war das schon ziemlich gut und wir machen uns auf den langen Weg zurück und geniessen die Aussichten.
