Wir wollen ans Cape Cross, zur Robbenkolonie, 120km nördlich von Swakopmund auf dem Weg zur Skeletonküste. Da können wir nicht reinfahren, man braucht ein Permit und ein 4×4. Aber auch so bekommt man eine Vorstellung wie die nächsten 1000km aussehen.
We want to go to Cape Cross, to the Sealcolonie, 120k north of Swakopmund on route to the Skeletoncoast. We cannot go there, you need a Permit and a 4×4. But even on this little strip you get an idea who the next 1000k look like.
Die Strasse ist festgefahrene Salzpiste, ziemlich gut solange es trocken ist. Allerdings regnet es hier so gut wie nie und die einzige Feuchtigkeit kommt von dem täglichen Seenebel. Im Sommer löst der sich mittags auf, sonst eben nicht.
The road is a fixed salttrack, pretty good as long as it is dry. But it almost never rains here, the only moisture they get is from the daily seefog. In summer this dissolve at noon, otherwise it stays.
Bevor wir zu den Robben gehen, wollen wir an der Lodge, die mitten im nichts steht und ziemlich groß ist, Kuchen essen. Aber ein paar Berliner, die uns überholt haben essen gerade die letzten Stücke und wir prophezeihen Ihnen üble Rache.

Um 5 schließt der Park und wir machen uns auf den Weg zurück. Sogar die Sonne kommt ein bißchen raus.

Zum Abendessen gibt es Nibbles und nach langer Zit nochmal eine DVD. Die Nacht ist frisch und laut, das Meer lärmt ziemlich.
